Anne Militello is a renowned theatre and architectural lighting designer and fine artist with a career spanning all aspects of creating with light. Her career began in theatre in New York City and eventually to opera, dance and concert stages. Among many awards, she received the prestigious OBIE Award for Sustained Excellence in Lighting Design for the Off- and Off-Off Broadway Theatre. She has designed the touring concert productions of Tom Waits, Robert Plant, Leonard Cohen, and Pearl Jam, among others. Her work in theatre (on and off the Broadway stage) includes collaborations with Sam Shepard and David Lynch. Militello worked for Walt Disney Imagineering and subsequently for Universal Studios.

For her work on “The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man” at Islands of Adventure in Orlando, FL, she received several honors, including “Themed Lighting Designer of the Year” from LDI. She started Vortex Lighting as a lighting design collective located in Los Angeles, CA. Among the numerous architectural projects produced at the studio, highlights include the moving light art façade of the New 42nd Street Studio Building in Times Square for which she received the highest honor from the IESNA in the form of the Paul Waterbury Award of Distinction in 2001. She has taught and lectured at such institutions as the Light Academy in Florence, Italy, the Illumination Symposium in Mexico City and the PLDA Workshop in Goa, India. She currently heads the graduate lighting program at California Institute of the Arts and has taught at SCIarc and Arts Center College of Design in Pasadena. Her unique lighting art projections have been shown in New York at the Modern Culture Gallery in her solo show “Radiate – Not Fade Away” which was given best art pick form the Art Newspaper of London.
