Kate Johnson is an Emmy® Award winning film producer, director, artist, and projection designer. Her film, “Mia, A Dancer’s Journey,” premiered at the Film Society at Lincoln Center and was broadcast on PBS stations across the nation. Her collaborative works have been exhibited at The ICA in London, MOMA NY, Cannes Film Festival, The American Cinematheque, The Los Angeles Film Festival, American Film Institute, The Pan African Film Festival, Pomona College Museum of Art, and broadcast on The Documentary Channel, Channel 5 France, and in film festivals internationally. Creating work outside of traditional gallery and theater spaces, Johnson focuses on site-specific events. Her large-scale projections have graced the Getty Center, MOCA, LACMA, LAX Tom Bradley International Airport, and have appeared alongside world leaders at major conferences. Her multimedia art works and collaborations have been seen at Duke University, Ford Amphitheater, Japanese American Cultural Center, The Los Angeles Metro, Dance Camera Istanbul, Tongva Park for the City of Santa Monica, and The Sheraton in Doha for the Royal Family of Qatar among others. Critic Edward Goldman stated that her immersive event “Everywhere in Between” at Bergamot Station was “The Night to Remember” and called for it to become an annual event on his radio broadcast on KCRW. Her latest work was for Center Theatre Group’s 50th Celebration where she served as creative producer for the event, overseeing all creative elements of the evening, and serving as video artist creating a piece that was projection mapped onto Los Angeles’ City Hall. Johnson also created imagery that was displayed on custom designed video-embedded tables, synced along with the projection piece.
