LDI 2017

Ryan Westphal received his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Lighting Design and Technology from the University of Colorado at Denver. During his studies, Ryan became the first student lighting designer for a mainstage university production, Mayakovsky Takes The Stage. In his senior year, Ryan attended LDI which sparked his interest in a lighting internship with Cirque du Soleil.He completed the internship, and was then hired at Zumanity. After working with Zumanity as a lighting technician for six years, Ryan joined the creation team for Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil. Now, the assistant head of Projection at Michael Jackson ONE, he is the projection console operator and oversees the daily operation of the department and projection rig. Currently, Ryan is modernizing the 5-year-old VYV Photon projection system to support more advanced mapping, calibration and tracking technologies for the future of the production.
